Reducing Radiation Exposure in Crohn's Disease Patients by the Availability of Magnetic Resonance Imaging 0 stars

Description

Crohn’s disease is a condition of the gastrointestinal tract characterized by inflammation of the intestines and can be complicated by ulcers, fistulas, and increased risk of malignancy. These patients are at a higher risk of receiving abdominal imaging due to the chronic nature of their condition. Repeated CT scans expose these patients to relatively high doses of radiation, which cumulatively increases their risk of cancer. MRI studies have been validated as an alternative imaging modality in Crohn’s disease patients to assess disease activity and do not increase radiation exposure. Our project focuses of methods to decrease the use of CT scans in Crohn's disease patients by the alternative use of MRI.
